What is the Christian’s Super Bowl?

The Super Bowl is a time where people enjoy getting together in fellowship with one another around a shared event. It is more than a tv show or a big game, especially for unbelievers! It is a time of shared focus upon 1 event, 1 thing, and 1 moment!

Some people love the commercials, some love the game, some are gambling on the game, some have a favorite team in the game, but for many, it’s just a time to get together to have fun and share lives.

I’m sure you have some Super Bowl memories from your past that you can recall RIGHT NOW if I asked you to! Why? Because it is marked by that day so it is memorable and you shared it with others.

I guess the Christian’s closest thing to a Super Bowl is the Sunday morning worship service and specifically on Resurrection Sunday (since Easter is a pagan word and name, I prefer a different name but that’s just me). That service unites Christians. It focuses Christians on Christ and His life, death, burial, and resurrection! It’s a time to celebrate, share lives, give testimonies, preach the Gospel, and center our time upon Christ.

Centering our thoughts upon Christ rather than some empty game should excite us more than die hard fans of a football team. We should be fired up for Christ when we really understand Who He is and what He has given us: eternal life not death in hell the lake of burning fire! That should motivate us to do good works according to James 2:14-26 that we would walk in the good works God has ordained for us all who are in Christ (Eph. 2:10).

Happy Resurrection Sunday in 2012! May it be more memorable and more meaningful than any football game you have ever attended. May it inspire you to live beyond one time of fellowship and celebration and to live for Christ each and every day!

The REAL Super Bowl for Christians is the Return of Christ! That day of His righteous return will be a time of shared focus upon 1 event, 1 thing, and 1 moment: most importantly, upon 1 Person Who is worthy of all of our affection and devotion!

Christ will return again soon! That’s the biggest event yet to come and I eagerly anticipate it with others! Messiah as Coming King is a day I long for! Do you? If you know Him, you should. If you do not know Him as Lord and Savior, you should dread that day but there is still time to confess your sin, ask for forgiveness, and live repentant and obediently for His glory! Cry out to Jesus today!

-Mark (Jesus Christ is Lord and worthy of our praise and celebrations)
