The Bachelor – TV Show without success

The tv show hit, The Bachelor, has a very poor record of lasting relationships. Only 4 of the 23 couples are still “together” (I’m not sure that even means “married”) after the process of dating and ultimate choice to be matched on the show.

That’s 17.3% success rate but the show stays on air because of its ratings…not because of its record.

While it might be fun to watch a group of people get whittled down to one, isn’t it nice that the Christian can learn to trust Christ to lead him/her to their spouse using biblical principles and the help of loving parents and pastors? We don’t need to trust ourselves as those on The Bachelor do, but we can trust in the Lord with all of our hearts and NOT lean on our own understanding according to Proverbs 3:5-8. We are to read the Word of God, obey it, and submit to godly people who will help us to find the person that God wants us to be in a covenantal marriage relationship with for life (Genesis 2:18-25). That type of marriage is meant to be a blessing not a curse. Nor is it intended to ever be separated in this lifetime by divorce.

God does not want us to be alone (Gen. 2:18) but to find that one person that we can love and serve and count upon them to love and serve us for a lifetime whether times are hard or easy, good or bad, or in sickness or in health, etc.

Statistics show that the way The Bachelor goes about that pursuit of a relationship does not work so maybe it’s time to kiss dating goodbye (Joshua Harris’ book title) and to find a mate God’s way: through obeying His Word and the godly counsel of shepherding leaders which includes parents!
